The Connections We Lose, and the Connections We Gain
The other day, I had the opportunity to attend a public lecture hosted by the Kanzaki District Medical Association.

The speaker was Shinobu Kasai, a well-known Japanese freelance announcer.
He shared his personal journey of being diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer, going through treatment, and ultimately reaching complete remission.
His story was powerful—not simply because of what he went through, but because of how he chose to live after facing something that could have completely changed the course of his life.
One phrase from his talk stayed with me:
“The connections we lose, and the connections we gain.”
Life is full of connections.
Some people come into our lives, walk alongside us for a while, and eventually take a different path.
Sometimes, we lose relationships we thought would last forever.
At those moments, it can feel like something has been taken away from us.
But perhaps every ending creates space for a new beginning.
A new person.
A new opportunity.
A new challenge.
A new connection.
Looking back on my own journey, I realize how many people I have met through my work and through the challenges of building a company.
Some connections came unexpectedly.
Some came through difficult experiences.
And some began with nothing more than a simple conversation.
When I started my business, I never imagined how many people I would eventually meet or how many new possibilities those connections would create.
That is the beauty of life.
Sometimes, what feels like a subtraction today becomes an addition tomorrow.
Running a company has taught me that relationships and connections are constantly changing.
People join.
People leave.
New businesses begin.
New challenges appear.
And with every change, new connections are created.
We cannot hold on to every relationship forever.
But we can choose to appreciate the people who are with us today.
And we can remain open to the people we have yet to meet.
That is what I took away from Kasai-san’s story.
Don’t be afraid of the connections that fade away.
Believe in the connections that are waiting to come into your life.
Life is unpredictable.
None of us knows what tomorrow will bring.
But perhaps that is exactly why every encounter matters.
I want to continue valuing the people I meet, the opportunities that come my way, and the connections that make this journey meaningful.
Here’s to the connections we have today—and to all the new connections still waiting for us tomorrow.
