Kurume, Japan’s Hottest City — Still Showing Up Every Day
“Kurume is the hottest city in Japan.”
Every time we hear that on the news, our first reaction is, “Here we go again!” It has become a sign that summer has truly arrived.
Recently, neighboring Dazaifu has also been making headlines for its extreme temperatures. Summers in this part of Japan are getting hotter every year, but this season has exceeded even our expectations.
Stepping into the car means grabbing a steering wheel that’s almost too hot to touch. Walking outside for just a few moments is enough to break into a sweat.
Yet despite the intense heat, one thing never changes.
Our mission is to support the everyday lives of the people in our community.
No matter how hot it gets, our patients and clients still need care. Every day, our nurses and rehabilitation therapists visit people in their homes, helping them live safely, comfortably, and independently.
Of course, protecting everyone from heat-related illness is also one of our top priorities. Staying hydrated, taking regular breaks, and working safely are essential parts of our daily routine during the summer months.
Sometimes, a client simply says,
“Thank you for coming, especially in this heat.”
Those few words remind us why we chose this profession. They make every drop of sweat worthwhile.
The hot days will continue for a while longer.
But we will continue visiting one home at a time, doing our best to support the people who rely on us and helping them continue living safely in their own community.
To everyone reading this, please take good care of yourself this summer. Stay hydrated, avoid the hottest hours when possible, and never underestimate the power of extreme heat.
Let’s all stay safe, healthy, and enjoy the rest of the summer together.
